In honor of Sumo Sato | 6/4/1962 - 3/11/2018

Cobian will forever be grateful to call Sumo one of our ambassadors, and has partnered with his family in the making of this sandal to honor his legacy.

Blaine Sato - known and loved as simply “Sumo” - was an icon within the surfing community and as an ambassador for Cobian, an embodiment of our brand mission to make “Every Step Matter.” From the islands of Hawaii to Huntington Beach, CA, Sumo’s heart was to be a messenger of “aloha” to all that he met. From pro-surfers to the homeless, Sumo’s legacy lives on in the many lives he touched throughout the years.

Even in the midst of battling cancer, Sumo’s joy and desire to serve others continued to only increase. His message was clear as he cemented the words, “Trust God,” next to his world-famous “shaka” into the ground during his 2016 induction into the Surfers’ Hall of Fame.
